Well, according to the label it has, this is what this sarracenia is. Not sure I believe them though. If anyone else has a better idea of what this one might be, let me know :)

Went to the local nursery that sells carnivorous plants today. There were some amazing nepenthes there, but I already have enough of those. Although the Gothica looked so tempting. But the sarracenias caught my eye today - loads of different varieties, a few were flowering, the lids were big and fancy... It was impossible to resist. Bought five sarracenias and two dionaea.

One of the sarracenias was labeled as being a sarracenia flava, although I think judging by its appearance, it's actually a sarracenia flava var. rugelii. Which is cool. I also purchased a couple leucophylla hybrids, a leucophylla x formosa and a minor "Giant." The "Giant" was flowering, and also came with a lot of little droseras of different varieties in the pot too (bonus!). Although there aren't any other pitchers starting to poke up on that one, so who knows how it'll go in the long run.

These are from K-mart and are the most comfortable pair of heels I've worn in ages. I actually bought this grey/silver pair after buying a black pair because I liked them so much. They're great for work because you can wear them all day without your feet getting sore, and they look good with work clothes.

Here's the final pair of Oliver + Co flats with my favourite Sportscraft cardigan (which I actually only use for lounging around the house, but it's so warm and comfortable). The colours on this pair of shoes (called Frank) are fantastic. I haven't had pink shoes in ages, and have been really tempted by the thought of getting some yellow shoes. These sort of combined those two ideas. Not entirely sure what I'll wear with these shoes, but they're great anyway.

A Month of Shoes - Day Eighteen

Last week, I ordered some ballet flats from Oliver + Co after finding out about their spring sale. Since breaking my leg and wrecking my ankle the other year, I've been more keen on flat shoes. Never used to be, lived in heels, but that's all changed. And the struggle now days is to find cheap, cute flats that look good AND feel comfortable for when you walk a lot, rather than just sitting around looking pretty.

There used to be far more adorable flats in low price ranges back in ye olde days when Target and K-mart were doing knockoffs and generally making cute shoes (if you cast your mind so far back as to say... oh... 2008). You can sometimes find cute, comfy flats in other stores too. But I think to end up getting quality now days, you need to pay for it.

That said, I will admit that I waited until Oliver + Co had a sale.

But I'm really happy with the shoes I bought from them. Especially the ones called Frank - they're described as "stunning banana and pink floral flats." Banana is about right for the colour description. The bright colours are really cheerful and a little bit retro. They aren't the shoes in the photo - I'll take a pic of the Frank ones later. The ones in the photo above are called Fred.

And had I mentioned that I love the names the shoes have? They all sound a little 1950s, a little old-world, and I am absolutely going to wear my pair of Matilda flats while I read Roald Dahl's Matilda at some point.

Actually, that gives me an idea for how to take the photos for that pair.

A Month of Shoes - Day Seventeen

Bought these years ago for a work Christmas function, which was held at Sky High on Mount Dandenong. Loved it when we had Christmas functions there, and some photos I took from up there of the city skyline at night inspired a couple of the paintings I've done. I think I wore them with a black and white polka-dot dress - really clashy, but I loved the black and white theme I had happening (think I also used my white mesh Oroton handbag for that too). I think I used to be a lot more crazy with the sort of clothes I'd combine, and feel more boring clothes-wise now days. Should work on that, I guess.

A Month of Shoes - Day Sixteen

These shoes are pretty - gold on the inside, ruffles on the outside, all satiny. Don't wear them often, though, because the wrong sort of length of skirt or pants or whatever creates weird illusions where your legs can look really short and dumpy. The right length of skirt with these looks great, though.

I really like the pink hints on the pitcher of this sarracenia. Judging by one of the small pitchers on the plant from before I bought it, they might darken up considerably to a rather nice purple. Hoping they do. But the soft pinks at the moment are lovely too. In some ways, I think I've bought enough nepenthes and would like to focus more on building up a little swamp/jungle of sarracenias. Which is a plan that's encouraged by the fact that sarracenias are a bit cheaper than nepenthes (unless you're buying the baby nepenthes, in which case it's about the same price).

The sarracenia I bought on the weekend is so close to flowering. Hoping it does so tomorrow while I'm home so I can get some photos of it. I love how unusual the flower is for it.

A Month of Shoes - Day Fifteen

I lied the other day about favourite shoes. Oh, the shoes on Day Seven of A Month of Shoes are my favourite flat shoes. I love them with a fiery passion. But these shoes will always and eternally be my favourites. They are just so good. Almost everyone who has seen them loves them, they're ridiculously comfortable and I got them really cheaply at K-mart in Chirnside Park a few years ago. If ever anything happens to them, I am going to find a cobbler who will be either able to repair them or remake them (and then make me about 20 pairs of them).

Blue and green should never be seen blah blah. I love these shoes. Haven't had anything to really wear them with though. But now I have two green cardigans, so I think they might get some more use in Summer. Excellent...
