Is there a scale of value vs destructibility out there somewhere?

It seems as though with stockings, the more expensive they are, the easier they are to destroy. Take, for example, my brand new $20 thigh-high nice stockings. They had a ladder in them within two hours of putting them on this morning - aaaarrrrghhh! And admittedly $20 isn't terribly much to pay for stockings, but it's still not that cheap. And two hours! That's $10 an hour! Or $5 per leg, per hour. And I'm going to stop that train of thought right there because that's sounding like it's going down a strange path.

Compare that to the stockings you buy at the supermarket for a couple bucks and they're nearly indestructible. You could roll down a hill, comando-crawl through a barbedwire fence and they'd still be going strong. They end up being the kind of ones you use to whip up a child's costume for the school play, and find lurking in the back of a cupboard five years later, still intact. Although the moths have chewed through the Brillo pads in the same cupboard.

*sigh*

Guess that means it's about time to find what kind of stocking-magic the Sock Shop is currently producing again. And that's never a bad thing. Apart from for the bank balance.

I know what you mean... I don't have many stockings.. 3 pair is all. but now they all have holes in them... including my favourite pair that came with holes in them on purpose.... Oh well do what I plan to do... shop at Clares store... get mates rates on stockings or something

Although Clare will be working at the chain, I have to say I don't much like B&T items. Sorry! *ducks to hide from missiles of balled-up stockings*

But it's teh awesomeness she'll be working somewhere fun :)

Sock Shop has seriously awesome stockings, though. They still stock my favourite style - the ones with redback spiders printed on them. Nice!

hmm,.. ok; but you can't beat my hot pink thigh high holey ones from the fetish shop.

Really really must go back there someday.

Hmm... Prolly could *lol* Got ones like that at home (also Sock Shop). They do them in all kinds of colours, too. I was thinking teal for the next pair.

There has to be a Sock Shop in Sydney somewhere. And when you find it, you must buy things from it *lol*

DON"T GET TEAL!!! IF YOU GET TEAL MY LIFE WILL NO LONGER BE WORTH LIVING!

I wanted teal... couldn't find them anywhere... so I got hot pink

*lol* Sorry! Will probably just go with black anyway.

I think it's a Melbourne thing, the black. Although I did wear lots of black in Sydney anyway...

But I guess that was just in preparation for unleashing my inner Melburnian or something.

hmm.. I dunno I like black stockings... I had 2 pair... one has ladders in them... the other is still in the back of my car I think... should check. But I had a white pair too... the lasted 10 seconds stupid horrid bastards.

White stockings make me think of the 80s and a lady we knew then who would wear them with white cowboy boots and some sort of skirt-and-shirt suit thing that was I believe some kind of fashion thing. There were shoulderpads involved, too, I think.

That's another memory to put back in the vaults.

How do you keep them clean anyways? White is an impossible colour for clothing of any variety.

I liked the white ones... they made my white legs look even whiter...

Bleach is quite possibly the best cleaning product. but with the speed at wich these fell apart; they'll never live long enough to get washed.

Just get some of that whitening powder women used to use a few centuries ago. Sure it was highly poisonous, but what's that when you get lusciously pale skin?

Or you could try the bleach on your legs..? ;)

Dominique said...

You can bleach your skin? I didn't know this... though poisonious powder dosn't sound like much fun... though if it gets rid of freckles and blemishes... it might be worth it...

I'm not entirely sure... Or maybe not entirely sure I want to know.

Google will provide thee with thy answers!

i actually have most of my pantyhose from woolworths. even my cool patterened ones that people comment on all the time.
and a few stockings and suspenders sets that you have to pay more than $5 for.
i'm so cheap.
sock shops everywhere in sydey.
i used to wear the white stockings with a blue dress and pretend i was alice in wonderland, usually at church. hmm.

Nothing wrong with pretending to be Alice in Wonderland. Especially for the tea parties ;)

Woolies/Safeway does have some okay stockings, actually. The winter ones with funky patterns have made me think, "Hmm... Should get some of them!" but I haven't so far.

get them. you will not regret it.
might wear mine to work if i wear a skirt this week.

The weather's warming up at the moment, though. Strange Winter heatwaves... But yes, might do.
