Susan Sarandon said something I that really grabbed my attention on Parkinson tonight about religion (Catholicism for her), which was something like:

"I was always told I had an overabundance of original sin, so I always felt like I was on the outside praying hard to fit in."

Hmmm...

WOW, that is really striking...

I picture it as a bubble surrounded by people trying and praying hard - envious of all the others they can see - all the time not realizing that EVERYONE is on the outside of the bubble thinking the same thing. How ironic.

How can we break the illusion?

That's an amazing point you make, and I hadn't thought of it like that really (want to write something about this topic for me for the mag, btw??).

I guess we do see other people as being "better" or "further along in their Christian walks" than we are, without realising that perhaps these people feel the same about others.

Breaking the illusion? Hmm... reminding people about the importance of the God-person relationship, I guess, and making that the most important part. Something like that, perhaps.
